Bakubung – Ranger Diaries

Capture

Everything started off as normal, and with 18 excited guests we headed off the main road into the western section of the park.
The reason I decided to go to the west is, that we found fresh tracks and signs of buffalos in the Leeuwfontein area when we walked there yesterday.

Because Cape buffalo (not water buffalo as many people think) is a very water dependent species, we firstly went down to a few dams in the area looking if we could find any fresh signs of them.
As we drove down one of the dirt roads, we picked up on them, standing in the thickets next to the road as it was getting warmer.
The buffalo herd of about 70 started making their way down to one of the dams.
Encountering Cape buffalo up close and personal will always be an amazing experience, especially in the Pilanesberg .
